Trying to boost your immune system, but always on the go? Gusto Organic have created a vegan friendly vitamin powered drink that is perfect for you!
About Gusto Organic:
Gusto Organic offers tasty and ethical drinks that are free from synthetics, full in flavour, and use fair trade and organic ingredients. They have a great range of products, from colas and
The story with Gusto Organic starts long ago: "Scroll back to the summer of 1987 and you’ll find Craig Sams, the hippy entrepreneur behind Whole Earth and Green & Blacks, concocting something special in his kitchen. Prepping for a big party at the Groucho Club, being thrown to celebrate 20 years of the Whole Earth brand, he decides to mix up something intriguing for the alcohol-free drinkers." And the rest is history!
Since they started selling to the public, Gusto Organic has certainly made waves and stood out from the crowd. They opt for more sustainable packaging, choosing either glass bottles or aluminum cans, resist the ease of refined sugars and synthetic sweeteners, skip the nasty stuff like phosphoric acid and petro-chemical caffeine, go for new and innovative ideas, and never skimp on quality. The brand is proud of their approach, and for good reason.
In fact, in an interview-style post the 'drinkmeister' of Gusto Organic, Will Fugard, goes into great detail about some of the decisions taken with the brand. He says, "We’ve made a policy of avoiding refined sugar across all of the drinks in our range. We’re not trying to give people 100 per cent low calorie drinks – we can’t because we’re organic and we’re not allowed to use artificial sweeteners and maintain our organic certification. But what we’re trying to do is reduce sugar." Instead, he explains they use alternatives like fairtrade blue agave, fairtrade apple juice, and grape juice.
Gusto Organic has a lot going for it, and I honestly can't believe I had not really delved into their range before now. However, now that I have I am definitely going to be choosing their drinks more often! As I mentioned in my roundup of fair trade brands to check out this year, I've recently been enjoying their latest launch that I was kindly gifted, the Super DC range which is loaded with vitamins as well as refreshing and yummy fizz. And today I'm excited to share my thoughts!
Super DC Immune Support Drink Review:
Gusto Organic set out to create a selection of supportive drinks that were guilt free and brimming with beneficial ingredients. The plant based formulas are perfect to grab on the go, plus they help keep your immune system intact all year round - that's definitely a worthy cause, especially these days!
There are two flavours in the Super DC range: a lush citrus Blood Orange and a juicy Blackcurrant & Elderberry. Both contain a mega dose of vitamins so no matter what your lifestyle is you can maintain a healthy balance. Each serving of Gusto Organic's sparkling immune drinks contain six vitamins and minerals, a high percentage of real fruit juice, and absolutely no synthetics. High in antioxidants and anthocyanins (a phytochemical that fights free radicals), but low in calories, the Super DC line is definitely something special. I mean, what other sparkling fruit water do you know of that contains 200% Vitamin D and 2500% Vitamin C??
I also love that Gusto Organic opted for a more sustainable packaging option which I really appreciate. The number of times I have gone thirsty rather than pick up a plastic bottle is ridiculous (because yes, I am human and DO forget my reusables on occasion!), so knowing I can pick up a can that minimizes potential waste is a huge deal to me.
But what about the flavours themselves? Are they worth picking up??
Gusto Organic Blood Orange:
When I think of blood orange beverages, I can almost feel my taste buds start to curl from the intense tartness and slightly bitter citrus tang. But Gusto Organic has managed to soften this intensity and produce a sweet and juicy flavour that is bursting with summer vibes. It hits the nostalgia button hard, and makes my mouth water. It reminds me more of mandarin in many ways, and I think the complex profile makes this a drink I will remember and keep coming back to.
Ingredients: Carbonated water, blood orange juice 23% (from concentrate), white grape juice 23% (from concentrate) erythritol, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) natural blood orange flavour, extracts of black elderberry, acerola cherry and white mulberry, steviol glycosides (natural sweetener) Zinc, Vitamin D3, Vitamin A, Vitamin B9 Folic Acid, Vitamin K.
Gusto Organic Blackcurrant & Elderberry:
Now, I'm not usually a fan of anything blackcurrant, however Gusto Organic really surprised me with this flavour. Not only did I find it really tasty, I thought the addition of elderberry helped soften out the tartness and adds a moreish sweetness that really makes this stand out. Used in traditional medicine as a remedy for flu and and cold symptoms, the addition of this ingredient brings real benefits along with complimentary taste - it's a perfect fusion!
Ingredients: Ingredients: Carbonated water, apple juice 24% (from concentrate),, blackcurrant % elderberry juice 15% (from concentrate) erythritol & steviol glycosides (natural sweeteners) Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) natural flavour, extracts of black elderberry, acerola cherry and white mulberry, Zinc, Vitamin D3, Vitamin A, Vitamin B9 Folic Acid, Vitamin K
Which Super DC drink do you think you would want to try? Are you a Blood Orange fan or a Blackcurrant & Elderberry supporter? Of course you can always try both! I think it is well worth picking up one (or eight!) of each, as the flavours might surprise you - they are both so nice, and you might just find that you can't choose a favourite.
I would love to hear your thoughts on Gusto Organic, so do let me know. And of course feel free to ask me any questions, or better yet, give the brand a follow over on Instagram so you can see all the cool stuff they get up to!
Yum - those flavors sound absolutely incredible! Thanks for bringing this brand to my attention.
